Had a fantastic recap so far and goodreads app BLOWS and wouldn't let me add it! Short, short version, author is brave for writing about his past and sharing what he learned from it with others. I was feeling superior at the list of relationship assumptions until I realized I have almost all of those assumptions. Glad the book has opened my eyes to my error.

I just started this book and so far it's an easy read, but sad as the author is detailing the emotional pain he experienced in his childhood. I think we have all felt alone and misunderstood at one point or another in our lives and as we age, we either deal and forget about it because its too painful to think about or we live it still. Remembering as I read Mike's experiences is not easy.

All I knew of the world up to this point was fear and hurt. The day I changed schools, I adopted a new name – Mike - to symbolise my aspiration to gain freedom and peace. I started to make a conscious effort to learn how to connect with others. It was a struggle of monumental proportions. Learning even the simplest, most basic social skills was tough because I was constantly fighting the urge to listen to the old tap

Talk about a story that will rock you to tears. Breaks my heart of what this young man and his family went through. Really interesting and looking forward how he came on top of it all.
