I started with the 2nd book in the trilogy, which worked for me with Storm Constantine's "Crown of Silence" of the Madravandias trilogy. You're kinda dropped in the middle of a story, but that means you're past the introduction and things are interesting right away, and there's enough explanation so you're not lost. I'm surprised how well I'm liking it, given my lack of attention lately.
