The circle closes with Lol coming back to T. Beach where she was left 10 years ago by her fiancée together with Jacques. Yet, it would have been a far too easy resolution to Lol's ravishment. The next day, Jacques is in the love hotel with Tatiana again. Nothing changed?

Duras's female figures are extraordinary. This is mostly about Lol. Not necessarily strong but determined in her own world.

The personal narrator reveals himself as Jacques Hold. He is the man, Lol saw passing by at her house and later followed him from a cinema to a love hotel where he met with Tatiana, her forgotten childhood friend. Lol decides to get in touch with her again to get Jacques.
You could call Lol pretentious being enigmatic and raptured. It's unreal, unrealistic. And gorgeous to watch a larger than life love crash coming.

An investigation into the event that brought Lol V. Stein to inner immigration. The first pages are exceptional. An unreliable narrator, contrasting her impressions with the narration of Lol's friend Tatiana Karl, whom she doesn't believe.

My used copy is heavily annotated and underlined as if used for university. Love it.
