“Ssh. I’ve got you,” Matt murmured against her ear as the pressure of his body eased. He stroked her hair in a comforting gesture, but Casey felt his hand shake. “Are you okay, sweetness?” He eased off staring into her eyes with concern etched on his face. His mouth tightened as he studied her. “Did they hurt you?”

“I’m going out as bait. Wire me if you have to, but don’t try and stop me. There’s a bounty on my head. Let them take me, then come in and get Casey out.” They had very little options at this point. Baker would torture Casey, or worse, and Matt needed to get to her, now. Protect her at all costs. Die for her if necessary.

He’d seriously effed up when he’d touched her at the compound. She’d been under his protection and he’d broken every rule in the book when he made love to her. But what was done was done, and he couldn’t let his feelings of guilt stop him from claiming her now. He stood, lifted her into his arms, and carried her into the bedroom, placing her gently on the bed.

“What?” she asked defensively. It irritated him that Casey didn’t take her safety more seriously. Yeah, Paul had been nearby, but still, anything could have happened. And he’d ordered her to stay inside. His jaw clamped tight. She’d learn to follow orders.

"Are you moving in?" How was she supposed to function, knowing there was a hunky man in her apartment that had rocked her world and then ignored her like yesterday’s news. The pain of his rejection still hurt. “For now. When I’m not here, Jacob, or one of your father’s men will be.”
“I-I only have one bedroom.”
“I’ll sleep on the couch.” Her lips pressed tightly together. Another rejection. Casey stood. “Fine.”

“Don’t cry, sweet thing.” He hugged her and kissed the top of her head. Her tears tore at him. He glanced up at his teammate, Jacob, who strode over to them with a grim expression on his face. “Hey, Sash.” Jacob raised a brow as he studied Casey in Matt’s arms. “We thought you might need some assistance, but it appears you have everything well in hand.”

“Oh. My. God.” Casey collapsed onto Matt’s chest. He chuckled, then wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled her ear. “No. Just Matt.” He was just too damn adorable. Like a big, cuddly teddy bear. She snorted. Okay. A big cuddly, horny teddy bear. Make that a big, cuddly, gun-toting, sometimes frightening in his intensity, teddy bear.

For a second, doubt assailed her. Then their eyes met, the intensity of his gaze took her breath away, and when his mouth curved into a sexy smile her stomach fluttered like a schoolgirl with a crush. Rock’s hands swept across her face in a tender caress.

“Are you ready?” She was the sweetest thing he’d ever known and he’d die to keep her safe. His chest filled with pride when she glanced at him and lifted her pretty, defiant chin. “Let’s do this,” Casey said.

The relief flooding her at being safe in Rock’s embrace tore at her defenses. She collapsed against him, as exhaustion crashed down on her. A cry tore from her as she broke into sobs, soaking his shirt. Her body racked with shudders. He held her close and made his way back toward the building. Fury emanated from him, but his voice was soft when he spoke. “Sshh. Easy now, sweetness. I’ve gotcha.”

“You’re a sassy little thing, aren’t you?” Casey could only stare at his devastating smile. If he weren’t a kidnapping terrorist rapist, she’d do him right now. Her traitorous body heated and little electrical currents of desire shot to her center. There should be a law against a laugh that sexy. She groaned and closed her eyes.

Matt was here to not only to bring down Baker, but his entire network of home-grown jihadist. Having Casey there was a serious problem. He couldn’t blow his cover to protect her, but he couldn’t let her be harmed either. He set his jaw. This was a cluster$@#! of major proportions and he had to get the situation under control, and fast.

Casey clutched her chest and took a quick step back, her body poised to flee. A scream welled in her throat. A hand clamped over her mouth in a cruel grip, silencing her, at the same time a thick arm curled around her waist. “You heard him, girlie,” a man snarled into her ear. “Not a effin’ sound.”
