we don't normally see this view of the "other" side of war. the personal lives, struggles, heartaches. this book did a tremendous job in telling this viewpoint. at times the reader can feel, see, hear, touch the events taking place. a worthy story.

Poor Jimin and Misern! How horrible! To walk so far to find their father, only to miss him by a few days...the search continues...I hope they find him alive. In a war torn country that isn't likely to happen :( I know the Korean war in the forty's and fifties was awful, but I don't think I ever stopped to wonder how bad it was for the civilians who lived there. These poor kids are always on the brink of starvation...

Wow...I find myself hoping this isn't a true story...it follows a time line like it could be...But it is just so...awful! Not the writing or the story...the idea that someone lived through all of this.
