The emerging thought of mine after reading Chapter 5 is the essence of human nature and how it is mischaracterized by sin. Augustine’s idea of created human nature, vs the other three stages of human nature answers my question that if human nature if inherently sinful, why would we want to go to heaven, thus being stripped of our humanity?

Solid introductory chapter. My fiancée and I agree that a lot of the info presented here comes across as sort of basic, but I believe that it what it is meant to accomplish. It is meant to be introductory! Not everyone picking this book up will have the background knowledge that we’ve been blessed with.

Arguing that humans are "deserving of suffering because of sin" and painting it as something completely key to our experience is amazing for a white Christian living in the USA. However, suffering is incredibly nuanced throughout the world and this argument is completely and utterly flawed. The encouragement for believers to analyse themselves every day for sinfulness is also completely mad.
