Status Updates From La Sombra del Torturador

I'm feeling a little lost but one thing is clear: this world is bleak! Wow. Death (and maybe cannablism), torture, and hopelessness are commonplace in the world of a dying sun.

Some of what's happening is hard to follow and feels a little like stepping into malazan... Pieces that are being set up without aot of exposition or explanation.

I'm kind of loving it. Like a little moody jigsaw puzzle. Also.... Vibes!

Finally got off loan from the library again. I still feel confused about how I'm supposed to feel about Severian. I see reviews saying how he isn't a reliable narrator, but I must be missing something huge to not just see him as just a sheltered child who knows very little? Like it hardly seems like he's intentionally malicious.
