Wow! I thought the first book in the series had quite a few offensive comments throughout but even as bad as some of those were it has nothing on this book. I’m only a quarter into this book and there’s been far too many offensive and prejudiced remarks for my liking. I was expecting this one to be better especially since a different series from this author I’ve read didn’t have any at all.

There are just so many harmful slurs in this book that are unnecessary. I don’t see what the author was going for. Adds nothing to plot, does not make the characters more interesting, just a waste of space.

And at this point I’m doing the equivalent of hate-watching a TV show. The book is well-written in terms of grammar and being able to set a scene, but Kristy is so hard to relate to/root for. She is constantly pointing out people’s flaws (not verbally but internally to the reader) and keeps mentioning the elderly women’s sexuality who work at her shop. It’s unnecessary and adds nothing to the story.

This one is going to be a struggle… but I’ll get through it. It really bothers me how Kristy is always so focused on appearance (good or bad) of others. A good portion of this book is just describing how hot Mitch looks (which granted I understand is for the romantic tone of the book) or how displeasing Rich looks. IMO it makes her seem shallow.

I’m really trying to like the main character Kristy, but she just seems kind of one dimensional and the stereotypic “cool girl” trope.

4 stars. Funny. Audible escape. Love this series and author. Cop. Different narrator than first book, but still good. Lol. Fantastic secondary characters. Do wish forgiveness didn’t come so easily, but still loved it
