Status Updates From All We Were Promised

The concept was quite interesting, but the execution needs refinement. Very overwritten with unnecessary explanations and so much repetition. Although dealing with slavery and the intensity of runaway slaves, it was rather tame. It felt like a YA book with very little suspense, drama, or tragedy. The ending with Charlottes father didn’t fit the happily ever afters of the others- odd choice.

I’m enjoying the premise- a free girl, and runway, and an enslaved. I do find it over-written with too much unnecessary fluff, like outfit descriptions. Evie (the enslaved) is a little too demanding and immature than feels right.
