Status Updates From Despues del Terremoto

It seems like the stories keep getting weirder one by one. I really like “Thailand”; it’s a well-rounded story with all the charm of Murakami’s dreamlike atmosphere. And thank God it’s short, because there’s nothing weird about women in this one. Although I’m a bit skeptical about his portrayal of Thailand, it’s only a very small part of the story, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

What the hell is happening in the third story? The protagonist’s relationship with his mother doesn’t seem necessary at all. But I must admit that it has some interesting parts, especially toward the end. I guess this is just Murakami being Murakami again.

Anyway, I feel like the stories have been quite on the serious side of Murakami so far, maybe except for the third story, which has a tinge of comedy to it.
