Istanbul y sblmnya bernama Kota Konstatinopel sebelum ditaklukkan oleh Muhammad Al Fatih pada tahun 875 H/1453 M bernama Islambul (kota Islam)
Istanbul terus mnjdi ibukota Kesultanan Utsmaniyah hingga akhirnya ibukota berpindah dari Instanbul ke Ankara y terletak di tengah2 Anatolia pd thun 1923 M
Perubahan nama dr "Islambul (Kota Islam)" dan perpindahan ibukota ke Ankara di perintahkan langsung oleh Mustafa Ataturk.
