Status Updates From The Machine Stops

Wow! This short story really packs a punch. I’m riveted, horrified, and humbled. It’s truly amazing that this short story was written in the early 1900s and yet has predicted so much of the technological advancement that would come, as well as the attitudes that would follow suit. This was an important read considering the times we live in and how advancement seems to blind us to the reality of our plight.

“It was naked, humanity seemed naked, and all these tubes and buttons and machineries neither came into the world with us, nor will they follow us out, nor do they matter supremely while we are here.”
