This book is making me alternately sad and furious.

Although this book is full of great information, it is a slow read. It is not academic enough to be a truly challenging read and not 'popular non-fiction' enough to be engaging to read. One truly disappointing part is that none of the source materials the author listed in the footnotes seem to be firsthand accounts. Every one of them is something someone else gathered for. Readers can't check the firsthand source.
