Status Updates From Sosyalizm ve İnsan Ruhu

I’m only 20% through this essay and I am already so intrigued. I love to read and understand other people’s points of view on theories. So far Wilde has made some very good points and also some very bad ones that I don’t agree with. The beauty in reading essays like this is understanding how they thought about it and forming your own opinions on the merit of their arguments.

Picked it up on a whim… More of a petty diatribe against bourgeois English society, but there are iconic, quotable jabs.

Wilde does not exercise a solid grasp on history to give weight to his arguments, but his points on Jesus, poverty, journalism, and art are worth tossing around on a slow afternoon.

‘Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.’

‘He who would be free must not conform.’

‘To live is the rarest thing in the world.’
