I finally picked this back up again, after reading 3 pages months ago. It's a strange beast, a sort of stream of history-research-consciousness. The writing is hit and miss, absolutely gorgeous one minute and plain daft the next. But I like it very much already, am quite beguiled and drawn on. Looking forward to spending more time with it.
