Still has its faults, but the politics are clear, and the descriptions of Mayerling and Sisi's murder are some of the clearest I've ever read. (Also the list of Mayerling-theories never stops being amusing. Some of them are really farfetched..!)

What a bizarre book. It's like a selective mini-biography on FJ and Sisi, trying to pick moments in time related to the Habsburg empire falling apart (though how some issues are directly related, I cannot tell), sometimes giving non-FJ info as well. Marek seems overly biased against FJ, Grüne and Sophie, and seems to overly sympathize with Sisi.. sometimes he remembers they had kids. I just don't know what to think.
