I didn't notice this in the first book, but Gently by the Shore uses a lot of nonPC language. It was written in 1956 so a product of its time.

I enjoyed Gently Does It, a rather gentle (hah) story until the last little bits, I enjoyed this view back in time to when police work was more footwork than forensics
