Winning quotes 1) from Reading 3 Answers: “...Beowulf had taken out a troll’s nest. Of course, we’ve just seen the dwarves and Bilbo stumble across a troll’s nest, but we can be fairly certain that Beowulf’s trolls weren’t named Tom, Bert, and William.” and 2) Unferth as a literary type: “He would not grant greatness to other good men, Under heaven he held that all honor was his.”

Huh. So, not just Beowulf. It’s an entire Brit Lit course, and I’ve been assigned accompanying reading in Tolkien’s The Hobbit and lessons from the Poetry volume to do alongside my Old English reading. Probably not a bad idea to try it out, see how well it works as a one-stop Brit Lit course for homeschooling in the secondary years. Challenge accepted!
