Continues atmospheric, but it's not holding my attention well. The barrage of strange fantasy, while interesting, seems a bit disorganized. Enough that it takes being laid up a couple days to get back to it.

I've never seen a story so well assembled with so little information. Might have to save this author. See how the voice carries in other books.

Post-technology survival scenario on an isolated island, sirens in the water, mysterious shipwreck... Off to a fun start.
Seems unfair to blame the sirens for the deaths; mystical creatures can't help being irresistible, any more than scorpions can help having stingers.
Keep them at arms length, sure, if the option exists, but why assume malice?
