Rereading this bc last night I kept thinking about the bootstrap paradox and this book is a very good example.

being a timeslip novel gives the author some leeway on info dumping, but I'm really struggling to get invested in the protagonist

I'm less than impressed at the moment. Unnecessary inclusion of culture as costume that could have been done differently. Or there could have been anything that indicates that the author is aware that this is an issue. But I've checked the afterword and while it talks about sources and inspirations, there is no indication of awareness of the ickiness.
