Status Updates From Discovering Sophie

this book is a damn roller coaster ride

“Jack?”

He laughed. “Jack, who?”
It was Jack. Sophie was so stunned she could barely breathe. “I don’t…What’re you doing here?”
“Well,” he said in a deep voice. “I don’t dress up like a chubby, white haired man for just anyone, ya know.”

The two men shook hands. “How are you related to Sophie?” Hector asked in English.

Peter’s jaw dropped, and Jack laughed out loud. Hector knew very well Sophie didn’t have any living relatives.

Trust Jack to make dirty jokes after they just escaped:

“Jack, I need to give the injection in my leg—and not through my dirty clothing.”

One side of his mouth lifted in a wry grin, a mischievous glint lighting his eyes. “On second thought, I think I better give you the shot after all.”

She couldn’t help laughing. “Jack Mathison, you are shameless. Now turn around like a gentleman, and let me do this."

'Glancing to his side, he saw the donkey lying prostrate, clearly dead. At least he hadn’t suffered. Jack could see that the bullet had killed the animal instantly.'

“So,” he said, dumping a handful of candy into her palm, “I’m glad you’re done ignoring me.”

“I…uh, wasn’t ignoring you.” She chose a blue M&M and popped it in her mouth.

“Sophie,” Jack teased. “Lying is a sin.”

“Usually it’s Jack who is the grumpy one, but he seems awfully happy this morning, ¿no?”

Sophie tried not to smile too brightly. “Hmm. I guess that’s because we’re leaving.”

Hector laughed. “Yes, señorita, I’m sure that is part of the reason.”

HECTOR IS MY FAVORITE PART OF THIS BOOK. He's just in the sidelines shipping Jack & Sophie

There are very few good writers in what i (affectionately) call the "Crappy Country Romance" genre but Cindy is definitely one of them and I'm honestly loving her books so much so far, keeping my fingers crossed in hopes this one is gonna be as enjoyable as tbe others!
