Status Updates From THE SECRET DIARIES OF MISS ...

Carlisle (England) mentioned!

The casual cruelty to animals makes me sad. Putting down an old mare by stabbing her through the heart. Whipping tired horses mercilessly:(

This is such a modern exchange. Wild

“young man stopped me. Fancying I was going to strike him with my umbrella, he stepped back, saying, 'If you do, I'll drop you'. I quietly walked off, adding, 'I should like to see you.'”

Not the Bulldog 😭😭😭 I didn’t realize rabies was so common

“They had a fine bulldog die of hydrophobia on Monday night having been taken ill the night before. It was bit ten days ago by a mad dog”

This, & the sight of my uncle, literally left such an impression on me, that all the while I was undressing to get into bed, I kept almost involuntarily looking round, as if myself expecting to see some apparition standing by. Whatever people may say, I believe there are few minds at all times capable of resisting impressions of this kind

Stop. We’re literally just girls. This made me realize she’s just like me

Was not expecting so much of her life to be this mundane. Idk what I expected people in the early 1800s to be doing but it wasn’t this

‘The contents of this cipher... is an intimate account of homosexual practices among Miss Lister and her many “friends”; hardly any one of them escaped her.’

😭🤣

the fact that anne lister met the ladies of llangollen is actually insane

if you’ve seen gentleman jack (which if you haven’t, go watch it), I can confirm that suranne jones was not exaggerating anne lister’s personality one bit
