“Solidarity is a positive-sum game. Any group characteristic that enhances the overall well-being members can obtain from a given set of scarce material resources is obviously advantageous. Solidarity is one such group characteris-tic. Clearly economic institutions that enhance feelings of solidarity are preferable to economic institutions that undermine solidarity among participants.”

So far the book begins to construct an argument against capitalism as an economic system (and for participatory economic schemes) by defining seven goals: economic democracy, economic justice, sustainability, efficiency, solidarity and variety. I'm most interested in the efficiency argument since that's usually the main selling point of capitalism.
The language is easy to digest and at times pretty funny.
