Has all the makings of a drab story, but the character writing has me riveted.

“His experience was of that pitiable kind which shrinks from pity…” this is not the first word rep.

I am really enjoying the Dorothea plot line. The Vincy one, not as much.

There is a Caius! What are the chances?

I love reading about Fred, but I despise his mother.

I keep thinking about the truth of her comments about dating/courting. So true. People often see each glimpsed gift of their new lover as an indication of greater depths, but those gifts are definitely not bottomless.

I've come to terms with the fact this will be a slow read. This plotless wonder is worth taking my time over. Well worth it.
