Status Updates From Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

I'm not saying you have to add a moral at the end of every story for kids, but at the very least we need to try and not teach the WRONG lessons.

1) Percy is supposed to be the narrator, and this makes him seem uncharacteristically mean-spirited. Two, this is a book intended for CHILDREN. Middle schoolers.

A very impressionable group, who can and do easily absorb toxic messaging without thinking it through. Therefore, every children's author is responsible for avoiding toxic messaging in their work as much as possible.

Yet again, we're making light of the fact that the marriage is non-consensual on Aphrodite's part.

Actually, we've done that not once but TWICE.

Just because you can't stand a person's personality does not mean it is okay to make light of their consent being disregarded.

I mean, it's a fault with a lot of retellings of this myth, but...

So why is Athena portrayed as instantly hating Aphrodite along with the other female goddesses, seemingly for no reason?

This retelling of the marriage of Hephaestus and Aphrodite just feels so misogynistic.

The goddesses are literally portrayed as hating Aphrodite on sight, even the three "virgin goddesses".

You know, the ones who've sworn off men and live in a world where men act entitled to women's bodies.

So, logically, they are the ones who would BENEFIT from someone stealing attention away from them.

You'd think Rhea would never forgive him. I mean, your husband eats your firstborn child like a slider hamburger... Your typical mother isn't going to forget that.
