Status Updates From Becoming Mrs. Right

An uneducated young black woman gets knocked up by a smart black man and he dumps her for being stupid? And then the child gets “the sugar” so the mother loses her child support check? Is this the way American black women are viewed? Maybe I’m doing too much since I’m on page 6. But already, I feel this book is going to be some clown shit.

Ah, I have an issue with this book. First off, as a Black American woman, I feel that nobody can tell our stories better than we can. It’s our stories. The author mentioned that she lives in Cameroon and she writes “US-based fiction” while living in Africa. The stereotypes in this book are disgusting already. Continued in next status....

I feel bad for Shauntae. She didn't have the proper upbringing and didn't learn anything from her mother besides how to hustle a man. Her friend Sherice is no help at all and I wouldn't consider her a friend. All she does is talk down to her like a child. Candy is helping her and she's helping Candy. Gary needs to let her tell him what she's trying to tell him. He's gonna be mad at her if he finds out, but she tried
