Contrary to popular belief, small doses of turmeric found in health drinks do not have enough active curcurim to be considered therapeutic. Curcurim, the main active compound in turmeric, is poorly absorbed on its own, but when combined with black pepper extract (Piperine), it is absorbed 1000x more. When purchasing turmeric/curcurim supplements, choose the ones with at least 500mg curcurim and added Piperine.
