Enjoying this quite a lot. Crime is so complex and most of our ideas flow from our prior biases, not real understanding.
First chapter: direct comparisons of US and other countries is misleading. US has higher incarceration rates due to higher levels of violent crime and our choice to criminalize drug use. Adjusting for those factors, US rates of incarceration are similatr to other countries.
