I never read any of the Hunger Games, but saw the movies; this novel is similar in plot only to the degree of a post apocalyptic world ruled by a society greater than all other territories, but their annual rite of passage, as it were, is not only the strongest will survive - but who can survive the ritualistic brutality of the competition using bdsm overtures, strong versus weak, dominant versus submissive.
