Utterly fascinating plot in flowing prose, but only in the (one in two) moments when Murakami can bear to stop writing about breasts. I’d settle even for him to start writing about penises to satiate his hunger for the lewd, but I don’t think he can survive parting with his (dizzying) heterosexuality.

Beautifully written and translated though bleak. The dark theme has adult/child attraction and a lot of mention of SA. The end of book 1 introduces a fantasy aspect.
