Presents information new to me, of increased slave uprisings btwn 1850-1861. Northern Black freemen org. to fight back against slave catchers & kidnappers. Points to most Caucasian abolitionists as also not seeing Blacks as equals. Title implies it could have been done w/o any white help. Is that really where he is going?

Very first pages of text worried me, mixing the periods of the Civil War re Lincoln's perspective w later events in one stew. I want this thesis to be successful. Later pages prove much more scholarly, well documented, & impressive. It's about time. Wondered how long Civil War revisionism would be tolerated.
