Status Updates From Health Communism

My kindle ran out and I don't have a charger for it so this is on pause :(

Chapter 3, titled “LABOUR” delves into the systems idea of the worker/surplus binary. How do we define health? Capitalism describes it as the ability to submit oneself to labour.

Chapter 2 delves into how we got here, the soviet healthcare system boogyman and the stigma around calling in sick to work, very dense book but great stuff.

Great first chapter describing capitals relation to the “surplus population”. Or those who cannot physically work and how the state continues to extract wealth even when the bodily is no longer capable.

I guess I’m still adapting to nonfiction audiobooks .. but the narrator did sound like ai which could just be me. also had different expectations going in, thought it would be pretty radical but it repeated what i agree with / have heard before : health is capital, capitalism lowers the value of those who are ill and so forth. this also didn’t feel cohesive, it read like a textbook and maybe it is, anyways 3.5
