The Word of God is for consolation and exhortation

starting on page 63 is a list of motivations to true godliness, starting with the severity of God's wrath & the ugly hideousness of our sin

So I picked up my Gerhard again & I was blessed with this thought that "Christ gave Himself for His Church so that He might make it holy, not just through the imputation of His holiness, but also through the sanctification and gift of the Holy Spirit, in order that it may continue henceforth to live in holiness." pages 61-62
