Logics of change and cyclical dialects are fun to think about, but man are they messy for managers trying to identify useful and actionable ideas.

I think this is a book I will be thinking about for the rest of my life. I love how each chapter is a different perspective on the same topic. And, it’s so well written that I didn’t realize until halfway through that it is literally a book long literature review on organizational behavior. Well, I have encountered many of the ideas in this book separately, having them together is re-organizing my thinking.

Done with the chapter on power and I feel exhausted just thinking about it all.

It’s fascinating to read, perspectives on the brain as an organizational metaphor, and then to have that metaphor expanded by talking about “emerging” technologies like “the Internet”. While the book shows its age in chapter 4, it also is impressively perceptive into the issues and foundations that would underlie the future of the technology.

Love the idea that all Theories are Metaphors. Reminds me of the idea of Leaky Abstractions from coding.
