Janielle shook her head unbelievingly, wildly, a long shuddering moan pouring from her mouth. "Yours? Or Bennington's, or Indee's, or perhaps Evan's?" she cried, near hysteria. She gasped for breath. "I will tell you, Ryan! Not Indee's—he never liked—he preferred—" Her voice faltered. "And Bennington, he sailed from the cay and I had my time afterward. And Evan—"

I can't with this

Ryan was the deepest puzzle of all. A tall, sun-darkened, bearded pirate, lithe, square-shouldered, lean in the flanks, and disturbingly masculine, with a newborn killer reflex that terrified her. Ryan had not hesitated to kill Indee, and through the shreds of what she could recall of that night, he had killed without conscience. A cold, clear slice of brutality befitting a pirate lord.

Janielle caught the clothing with both hands, her violet eyes widening with shock as a pink silk pelisse fell from the bundle. Her fingers traveled across the delicate fabric, her eyes holding Ryan's.

"Whose is this, Ryan?" she asked coldly.

His gaze fixed upon Kip McLaughlin's silk cloak.

"It belonged to Wyler's niece," he snarled.

"After tonight, there will be no safe place for me on land, Janielle," Ryan said quietly. "I am taking you to sea."

"Still, the velvet jab of his manhood startled her. In moon-quivering shadows, she looked up at the figure that covered her, filled her.

At that moment she caught herself. "God, what am I doing," she moaned, struggling against the force that joined her tightly to its root. Too late, she was lifting to Evan,"

How would it be with Evan? she wondered. Not bitter hurtful wrenching from her arms afterward, not the poignant rippling of Ryan's brutal love, not the possessive, uncertain tenderness of Brandon's lovemaking. With Evan, she didn't know.

Evan knew. He had explored the intimate caverns of her femininity, touched the core of her arousal, and taken a lifeless mass from her womb.

There's finally a boat

Ryan was buttoning his breeches. "I have agreed to wed you, Kaylee. You may consider this our final consummation, for I shall never touch you again."

lol this book is crazy. I have no idea what the plot is or if there even is one.

It should be a crime to use the word violet this many times.

there's an explicit scene of the mmc forcefully deflowering a virgin who is not the fmc.

...idk. Just, this is not something I want to read.

They haven't even been on a boat. There have been no crimson sails.

I thought this book had pirates. There have been no pirates yet and I'm almost half way in.

I don't think this book is working out for me. There's too much time spent on the ow & om for both characters.

Janielle touched a fingertip to his mouth, quieting him. Her violet eyes welled with tears. "I beg you not to condemn me, Evan." She swallowed hard.

He straightened, standing tall beside her. "I am no judge of another man's doing. I wish you well. Good day, Janielle."

Unrelated, but sorta related:

I got 2 gift certificates to my favorite bookstore for xmas. Considering the books are only $1-2, it's going far. I feel like I have books coming out my ears. I'm having to quarantine the new books (dust & thus possible dust mites). I dreamed last night I had one of those fancy vacuums for books. *shakes head* I'm so glad to have these books but all I wanna do is read & not clean

"Ryan?"

Brandon sat back, stunned. "No, Janielle," he said quietly.

She moistened her lips, moving painfully in the rope bed.

"Ryan, please, let me tell you about your—" Her voice drifted away as she closed her eyes again.

Brandon was still, gazing down at her. Truth slowly gripped him. In the space near the ebbing of life, the truth will out. There could be no doubt; Ryan Deverel had won again.

If Janielle ends up with Ryan she needs to be punished and then do some serious grovelling.

Honestly, I'm kind of on Ryan's side right now. I get him being upset. He wasn't sleeping with anyone else, ready to marry her.

The problem is this is in 3rd person so I have no idea what's going through the heroine's head. If she truly loves Brandon fair enough, but if not and she loves Ryan, then yeah, she was just really shitty.

Janielle and Brandon walked slowly along the path, hands entwined, eyes shining with happiness. As they strolled along the footpath toward the cottage, Brandon brushed a light kiss on Janielle's cheek. She smiled up at him, the sunlight glinting in her white-gold hair.

Ryan grew rigid. It took only seconds for the impact of the scene he witnessed to fully grasp him.

And we have a love triangle :)

I'm going to start saying that whenever my man has a complaint about anything.

"I offer no apology"

"You make a man weak and hungry, Janielle," he said, moving to sit on the edge of the bed.

"I offer no apology." She spoke softly, her fingers traveling the ridge of his wide shoulders.

Brandon turned to her, the gentleness gone from his face, replaced by a fierce hunger in his smoldering eyes.

"Tonight, my love," he breathed, "none is needed."

Sooo cheesy but I like the "I offer no apology" line.

Brandon held Janielle firmly about the waist as the horse paced the distance to the secluded flood shack. He bent his head to nuzzle her fragrant hair as she nestled against him. The storm clouds had lowered into the valley, bringing light splatters of rain. He saw the unloaded wagon near the shack and estimated that Micah had left only moments before them."

I'm going to be disappointed if there's no om action

"Her violet eyes pleaded with him."

"You were aware that Challey was destroyed by fire?" John Patterson paused, seeing Morris nod his head.

"Janielle has not been in a normal state since her return. She continues to ride to Challey each day, returning at dusk in a state of exhaustion. I forbade her to go there, but she became so apathetic I relented. She seems to feel a responsibility for Challey and the men there. I, frankly, cannot understand it."

Despite the author reminding the reader a million times that the heroine has violet eyes, this is surprisingly well-written. I'm just nervous the plot is starting to lose focus. There hasn't quite been enough of a connection between Ryan and the heroine for there to be a love triangle or quad between Jonathon and Brandon. I'm hoping there's an abduction and forced proximity on a ship soon. A cabin romance.

"I will sleep near the fire, Janielle. There may be activity through the cottage tonight, but don't be alarmed. No one will harm you. Good night," he whispered tiredly, reaching down to tuck the covers about her. He waited until she closed her violet eyes, her long lashes fanning across her cheeks.

"He peered into her wide violet eyes, then slowly straightened."

Janielle's violet eyes welled with tears. "I heard someone screaming," she said, clutching at Brandon's arm. In all the chaotic nightmare of the fire and what had followed, only Brandon's strength seemed real. She grasped his large hand, holding it tightly against her cheek.

The author really wanted her readers to know the heroine had violet eyes. I'm also crossing my fingers this is going to be a love triangle.
