Exhilarating reading. Makes me want to do stunts and survive, but I’m not a great multi-tasker. Walking and chewing gum, and I choke on the gum, sort of thing. Helen was a beast, Beast, a BEAST!!! How she made it out of her 20s, I don’t know! Meanwhile, the book now heads for buzzkill territory, as the censorship and regulatory boards do bring safer days, but some bad power-structure maintenance as well. Fun over??

Whim purchases by me as I browse a bookstore often come from the Film & TV shelves, and it’ll be whatever wins the contest to pique my curiosity. A Goldwyn biography, and a book about the Bogart/Huston collaborations got beat out by this book…though those books remain on my mind. A “first Hollywood stuntwoman”, and her era of activity…too tempting!

This is the third book I have read by this author and her writing annoys me so much sometimes. She has these amazing and fascinating subjects, but is constantly injecting her snark into the narrative and it’s annoying and juvenile and distracting.
