What the hell? You don’t need to peddle the U.S. as so-called “defenders of freedom” to critique both China’s authoritarianism and the U.S.’ global-level obstruction of progress.

I have to admit I’ve started to struggle with this one. The writing is dry, but what’s worse is that the “advice” she gives is stuff that’s been said before, eg “And THAT’S why it’s important to tell your rich neighbors that global warming affects them, too!” There’s more than a bit of gung-ho optimism about American democracy that I find nonsensical at this point.

“In adapting to drought years, some California farmers are buying lightly filtered oil-drilling wastewater from fossil-fuel companies. About 100,000 acres of nuts, citrus, and vegetables, even those certified organic, are irrigated with this chemical-laden slurry.”
Just brimming with rage and petrochemicals over here.

Shout out to MMT, but also:
“US billionaires, a mere 650 people, could pay for over a year of the entire national transition to net zero with the extra money they made in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic alone.”
Feel like we should add an ‘or else’ 🍽️
