“Indeed, one could say that in the genealogy, these four women push aside all the tremendously important “history of men”; it is the women who are the real hinges on which the genealogy turns. Instead of a genealogy of supposedly male deeds, it becomes a genealogy of faith and of grace. The real heart of this history, the continuing story of God’s promise, is based on the faith of these women.”

I’ve decided to pick up this book for Advent. & the very first pages of this book hit a spot since I’ve been sick:
“illness and suffering can be a very personal Advent of one’s own… Even when it is difficult for us, we should at least try to understand the days of our illness in this way: The Lord has interrupted my activity for a time in order to let me be still.”
