“… the current Pope! Whose title I should really write with a lowercase p from now on, since the capital P puts too much junk in the trunk of such an old skunk” book is almost over and Fernando is still finding ways to denounce this man, so petty. He really hates the world, you have to have such a strong mentality going into this book because nothing, and no one is safe from his criticism except dogs and rats.

Finding out the narrator is gay makes his guilt makes so much sense. It’s not just guilt it’s survivors guilt. The story going from sarcasm to highly emotional at the change of a paragraph is such a roller coaster but love the authors writing style.

My biggest regret is not getting it in the original language😩😩 I already feel I am missing a certain poetic level to the story. The story starts so crass and you learn quickly that’s just how the main character is. The main character’s love for his brother regardless of his circumstance is already overpowering. His views on the world is also progressive for a straight man at the time.

Este capítulo tiene muchas buenas frases: “naranja obligona” ; “y el frio? para eso estaba el aguardiente para calentar el motor adentro;” “[el río Cauca] tiene tantos remolinos en sus aguas como malas intenciones en el alma.”
