The whole book the mom is characterized as the "fighter" who is trying to piece things back together, the dad is characterized as a deadbeat/left the family type man. Lo and behold the dad left because his wife had an affair!! That is such reasonable and encouraged behavior!! Yet he is the deadbeat who broke the family??? But she cheated? But its okay because she was in a dark place at the time?? Make it make sense!

an excellent book until page 148: "Then she said, Mom, I did a horrible thing, she was so serious. I asked her what she'd done and she said she'd had an affair with someone from the film, not the director, someone else, I don't know who, but when she said this I couldn't help it, but I laughed! I said, Honey, an affair? thats not a horrible thing....it's not a big deal. It happens! Its life!"

No sé por qué sigo intentando leer libros que tienen como protagonistas a niñas pequeñas con pensamiento adulto... No es que no me esté gustando, pero tampoco me está gustando

Uf, esto es una maravilla ✨

This book is hilarious, a true masterclass in voice. Yet I’m still stuck in the first bit. I can’t put my finger on why! Writing this here to try to shame myself into getting over the hump and finishing what I’m sure will be a book I love.
