Status Updates From J R

Gaddis is transferring narrative control through conversation rather than through an announced scene break. Bast exits, but the broker’s phone call keeps the current of information moving; Beaton answers, Joubert is physically there with him, and before you quite register it, the scene has migrated into Beaton’s space
Bast’s world → broker’s call → Beaton’s voice → Beaton’s room.
