It’s hard to make progress in this because I keep stopping to journal. He’s so keenly aware of the viscera of human consciousness. While I’m certainly not a genius (or a middle-aged father/husband unable to quit an affair and plotting to mercy-kill my own child), there is a kindness for me in his portrayal of someone who loves humanity even when outside of it, kept from it, foreign to it.
