Status Updates From Solarpunk Creatures

Evolution turns around and loops back on itself. It spirals and spins about, jumps and burrows and skips and scurries its way in whatever direction it can. In that way, I guess it’s also a lot like a stream in the desert; always seeking a path of least resistance.

It seems evolution isn’t a straight line. It’s not even a curved or a wavy line. It isn’t necessarily leading towards something better, more advanced, or morally superior. Evolution is more like a meandering trail that branches off in countless directions through forest so thick you can’t see more than a few dozen feet ahead.

I love solarpunk so much! This anthology is everything I was hoping for solarpunk with animals and respect for sentient life. Filled with optimism, reverence, and awe. Sweet and inspiring.

Oh, just a few stories in...I love these so much!

Rabbits, Rivers, and Prickly Pears: The point of view wasn't as convincing as many of the other stories. The perspective just didn't feel distinct enough.

Water Cycle: Loved the voice in this one. I thought it was very well done.

Night Fowls: I liked that there was a little more plot and mystery to this one. And I'd like to know more about the world-building.

Business of Bees: Short, but I loved it

Sonora's Journey: Love the anthropomorphizing in this, but I do feel like the story is maybe incomplete without mention of the indigenous humans of the desert

Threadloom: a sweet, gentle story about autonomy and self-expression, which turned out to be just what I needed today.
