“Twenty years of symbiotic exchanges between a system of social economics and the permutations and fruitions of 3,000 randomly assembled genetic patterns were catalogued and filed by library assistants employed on eight-month contracts to preside over the roaring silence of facts and lies that preceding assistants and technicians had been instructed and trusted to accumulate.”

I have so far read about suicides that I wonder could they be murders and seen some of the images from Schaik. It’s fascinating to read about the prostitution at pinery dens and how alcoholism and the temperance movement all coincided with Nauvoo and Mormons. I’ve heard the Mormon version many times but this shows what I wonder is peaking behind the curtain of Joseph Smith too.

This has been on my tbr for a very long time and I was very surprised to see it on Hoopla! Thankful I can get access to a book I thought I’d have to search high and low for. I’m taking a lot of sociology classes right now so I’m looking forward to view this work.

No page numbers. A mixture of old photos, gossip, passages from novels, and newspaper articles about deaths, arson, and other strange incidents in Wisconsin starting in the 1890s. Forest fires in Northern Wisconsin wiped out towns including Beloit. I wonder if my ancestors were affected.
