I think I came across the french version of this idiom
Sometimes I find that I don't care about this MC, but other times I find that I do. I guess that's why I keep reading, because I want to see if at the end I will be in the caring or uncaring phase.

Why is it always my gender doing the most for the other gender, though? Eish. This child risked a lot for a principle (to avoid being like her grandfather and behaving like a child when time to do so had long passed) and she broke the law and was nearly caught to visit Maxime. It cost her a precious memento.

On Tiktok I came across a page that was posting episodes of an animation title Kirikou that I watched & enjoyed, searching for all episodes posted so I could watch the entire thing. I thought it was the work of Africans because the story is about African folktales, like the one I know about a creature that drank all the water, causing a drought. Seeing it mentioned in this book had me doing some online investigation

The diction is very simple in this book, very accessible. It is probably for a juvenile reading level but I suppose the themes are what might make it not for a young audience. Set in the last century in the beginning and crossing over to this century by chapter 3.

Oh, wow, la vague d'informations qu'on vient de se manger en quelques chapitres. Maintenant, on sait pour sa mère, on sait aussi pour Maxime et je veux savoir, ce qu'il se passe dans les 30 dernières pages.

Oh non, son amoureux est en train de se marier avec une autre fille 😭

Je n'aime pas trop le personnage de Maxime. Il agit trop comme un enfant riche, ce qu'il est. Par contre, Billie est dépeinte également d'une manière qui me chiffonne, mais je n'arrive pas a savoir pourquoi.

Ok, j'ai beaucoup pleuré a la fin de ce chapitre. Elle me fait beaucoup de peine Billie.

Je pense que je commence un peu à cerner l'histoire. Je pense qu'on va parler d'une jeune fille / femme, qui va gâcher des choses dans sa vie, parce que personne n'a pris le temps de l'écouter.

Ah je suis curieuse, c'est sympa mais assez triste pour le moment.
