Just an observation that the author invariably uses the term "Indian" to describe the native american/indigenous peoples demographic. Just kind of odd, in this day and age, to see them described as such by a writer.

... interesting how the term "melungeon" was substituted for the term "gypsy", with eastern American parents threatening bad children that they'd be taken away by them. Swarthy "Indian" features (like my own grandfather's); I wonder if perhaps this is the lineage of many in that particular category.
