the last book's trauma. So overall, it was a good story and I am happy to close this series. It was good!

I think a good ending for Broken Throne would have been to talk about the last 2 pages of the book in greater detail, the pages where we go into the future to see Kilorn as a Premier, Mare and Cal married, Cam as a representative in Norta, Farely as a head in the SG with Clara helping in science research, etc. Going into detail in those aspects would have felt like closing this story better instead of reliving...

Every since character in the series has had some tragic backstory and/or experience but I hate how in Broken Throne instead of moving and talking past the grief it's been made to be the whole story, it ruins the "happily ever after" impact making the story more realistic but the book was never meant to be realistic, the spread of democracy can't be done with the exchange of letters.

Now that this series is over I can say that it was an overall 4/5. A lot of the book was redundant, most of the plot and fight scenes were reused which made me lose interest while reading some of it. I did not hate it but I do wished it was edited a little to remove the repetition. The story was amazing I loved the world she created. The character building however was very flawed it could have been better.

There never truly was a happy ending in store for Cal and Mare or anyone in the Red Queen. Calc still mourns the loss of his brother which is understandable, likewise with Mare. In addition to that Mare deals with the reminder of Maven in Cal. And Cal faces the reminder of Maven in Mare. To Cal Maven will always be Mavey his baby brother who was scared of the dark not the monster who enjoyed being in the dark.

The end of Steel Scars was soooo sweet so sibling core, Shade promising that while he lives he will always protect Mare which he kept, Shade even took bullets for her during her escape from her execution.

If Shade knew Mare and saw her in the Queens trail then in the many times that scarlet guard has been in the castle he must have been there too. He must have seen Mare irl in the castle too at some point and AHHH it breaks my heart that they never met in red queen she fully went on thinking he was dead and HE had to see her from afar.

I wish we got mote backstory on why Farely doesn’t like her father other than she just saying he’s a monster and that her mom and sister died because of him.

Diana is a captain, and she meets the Soldiers that are helping the Whistle rebellion and this is where Shade Barrow and Diana Farely start to become close. Due to Shades intelligence he can get a hold of good information to provide to Farely.
The conversations between Shade and Farely are so adorable and mature.

Steel scars
I’m gonna cry. Shade and Mare both worked with Mr. Whistle before they knew about it. They were both meant to help the rebellion.
Colonel Farely and Diana Farely hate each other because they are reminded of their family when they see each other. Colonel sees his wife and daughter in Diana while Diana sees her sister and mom.

It’s really nice to read Coraines POV and see the similarities she has with Mare. Julian was right to saw Mare and Coraine are from the same tree. Mare treasures Julian as a teacher and used his books while being help captive by Maven. While Coraine doesn’t enjoying reading (as did Mare in the beginning) she still treasures the books Julian gives her. Both of the characters find solace in Julian’s loopy handwriting.

I do see why Coraine was semi against them getting together since she didn’t want to be left alone in the home environment while Julian and Sara had fun not to mention Sara was CORAINES friends FIRST then Julian’s.

Queen Song
I’m reading Queen Song right now and honestly Coraine was such a good character. Her childhood environment was so rough. An emotionally abusive family save for Julian. Sara and Julian are THE legendary lovers. Wdym they’ve been in love with each other since they were 15 but actually ended up together YEARS later. Not to mention the way Sara and Julian would bring out the better parts of each other.

Giving the description of the history of Norta and its kings/queen was so important. The family tree also helped visualize the monarchy. It was shocking to read that the reds had started the rebillion YEAR ANS YEARS AGO more than a few Centuries.

I take his hand and lead him back up the mountainside. To his room, to mine, to the forest. To fire or lightning: It doesn't matter:
I am almost nineteen. I have nothing but time. To choose, to heal.
To live.
I love the sentiment but you can’t move on from such trauma in 2 months and then again say you’re just 18 and have your whole life ahead of you

"And I would hope that, in a perfect world, every time you looked at me, you wouldn't see your brother's corpse." The last word comes out hoarsely, broken apart.

If not for the circumstances, I would laugh at the thought of Gisa scolding Mare into dressing appropriately, and forcing her into the jacket.
I blush at the thought of getting her out of it.
Focus, my mind screams, and heat flares around me.
"Could you not?" Julian mutters through clenched teeth. The corner of his mouth twitches, betraying amusement.

He was dead and I thought her gone too. I thought I'd lost them both, lost them to each other one last time. My brother would have liked that. He took her once before and he would have taken her forever if he could have. I'm ashamed to say I reached for him first. His wrist, his neck, searching for a pulse that wasn't there. He already felt cold.

Who can say where the paths lead, or how the scales may balance in another decade? I suppose I can, but that is my curse. To watch, to see, until the ending of all things. We destroy. We rebuild. We destroy again. It is the constant of our kind. We are all a god’s chosen, and we are all a god’s cursed.

It is now a largely accepted belief that radiation from the Calamities caused many humans to mutate, with most dying off. Those who survived developed abilities over the course of generations and became the Silvers we know today.

Clara Farley-Barrow is a name well known to scientists, as she is a half newblood, half-Red observed nearly since birth. Her ability to teleport presented in her teens, which is considered a common age of discovery for newbloods.
