Many people, including the author himself (according to 1 gr reviewer), claim this is a modern retelling of The Count of Monte Christo. Yes, it does share the same general trope in that it is a story about a wrongfully accused man that is sent to prison then manages to get out & seek revenge.
However, to simply label it as a "modern retelling" undercuts Archer's honed skill as a master story teller & argent writer!
