So for a black tie event, she’s “not fussy” and barely wears any makeup, but for the opera, she suddenly forgets that she’s not fussy and puts on a bunch more makeup? Give me a break. 😂 Also, why do people call her boyfriend Pete Riley as if we’ve forgotten who he is? And the “Billy - no, Bobby” in every. single. book. You’d know him anywhere, but you can’t remember his name?

Quit breaking into people’s homes! My goodness, you’d think with how self-righteous she is when it comes to criticizing people who break the law, she might not see herself as above the law, but she’s breaking into places left and right!

“Her makeup was a snap. She wasn’t a fussy person, so she didn’t fuss too much with makeup. Just a dab of foundation, a touch of mascara, and some brow gel.” First off, Theodosia is definitely a fussy person. And if you’re using foundation, you probably need blush too or else your face will look one-dimensional.

Listen to Riley. For the love. Theodosia is so entitled.

“Didn’t we already go over this?”
“Indulge me,” Drayton said, because the author needs an awkward way to tell the reader every detail about the upcoming event even though she could *show* it a lot easier and more succinctly. Having characters converse about things (especially when you know that character wouldn’t forget the details, and it’s all for the reader’s benefit) is so cheap. Just show it!

Main reason I read these books is for the menu descriptions and the dreams of having a cutesy little tea shop.

Theodosia is insufferable - lying, withholding evidence, confronting people when the investigation is the job of the police…Riley doesn’t deserve her nonsense.
