My pendulum swings so far in both directions depending on the week. But this quote stayed with me: “I held fast against the wave that tried to sweep me into its slumber—the slumber that makes babies—for it's certainly a kind of slumber to do what nature wants. To have avoided its grasp feels as blissful and intimate as having a child, but the opposite of a child, in how what I've won can hardly be seen.”

So interesting to read as a woman trying to wrap her own head around motherhood- there is so much potential, weight, and consideration around the question of whether or not to have children. It was such an interesting way to explore your own preferences and opinions as you read what feels like strung together ribbons of Sheila’s streams of consciousness.

I didn’t know anything about Sheila Heti before I started reading this book. Her writing really struck a chord with me, and it turns out her parents are Hungarian, and her mother is from my hometown, Miskolc, Hungary. Such a small world!
